Introduction
Abusix Mail Intelligence™ is a suite of curated DNSRBLs designed to protect inbound and outbound mail servers. We aim to provide the most accurate, comprehensive, and innovative real-time threat intelligence data. To achieve this, we have created our own Abusix Intelligence™, an extensive network of spam traps and honeypots across the globe. Abusix Intelligence provides our customers and ourselves with real-time, actionable threat intelligence data that can be used to prevent spam, phishing, malware, and any other types of abuse.
We do not act as the “internet police” We will never do punitive or escalation listings. Instead, we will always be evidence-driven, listing only what is hitting our traps or where we have good evidence that spam is being emitted to our customers.
Standards
Abusix Mail Intelligence™ is provided as RFC-5782 compliant DNS lists that any SMTP server can query, or anti-spam software, appliance, or software that implements DNSBL, RHSBL, and URIBL lookups can apply.
What is your recommended configuration?
During the SMTP Transaction
We recommend using Abusix Mail Intelligence™ on SMTP servers at the edge of your network (e.g. your MX hosts) to reject mail during the SMTP transaction.
Our “combined” IP dataset and “dblack” domain dataset should be used for this. If we return a positive result, you can reject the email using the TXT record provided, which provides anyone who has their mail rejected with a URL that can be used to get more information and for delisting.
For connections accepting mail submissions from your users (e.g. via SMTP AUTH or from trusted IP address ranges), you should use our “authbl” IP dataset to help find compromised accounts.
During Content Analysis
If a message is accepted, we suggest running further content inspection, such as SpamAssassin or rspamd. Additionally, check Abusix Mail Intelligence™ against each received header hop, and examine the message body for URLs containing blacklisted domains, email addresses, cryptocurrency wallets, short URLs, and drive URLs using our “emailbl”, “btc-wallets”, “shorthash” and “drivehash” lists.
see Production Zones for more information about the lists provided as part of our suite.
see Getting Started for more information about configuring the service.
